Nursing Home

Nursing homes are for persons who have chronic and complex medical conditions and need long term skilled nursing inpatient facility (SNF or SNiF).  These medical conditions may cause severe cognitive impairment, require greater help with activities of daily living (ADL), or be related to a debilitating medical conditions under management of a registered nurse (RN).  They may be a good option for persons with serious memory issues such as Alzheimer’s.  Some locations will offer a variety of floor plans and options to allow couple to remain together.  Nursing homes offer both long-term and short-term stay.  They are often utilized after surgery, hospital admit, or serious illness.  If your loved one does not need 24-hour, skilled care you may also want to research Independent and Assisted Living.

Nursing homes are licensed care facilities that generally require a contract prior to move-in.  They offer the most extensive care that a person can receive outside of hospital care.

A Nursing home offers a wide range of medical care, but has a greater monthly cost.  Nursing homes may be covered by Medicare (some may also accept Medicaid) and range anywhere from $3,000- $10,000 per month.


Skilled Care in a Nursing home is provided by a licensed nurse and will include monitoring and administration of medical treatment.  They also employee care givers or Certified Nursing Assistants to help look after residents.  Some Nursing homes can also provide direct access to a variety care and other medical professionals such as:
