Assisted Living

An Assisted Living Community or an Assisted Living Facility is housing for persons needing assistance with daily living needs such as dressing, medications and bathing.  Assisted Living Facilities provide supervision, safety and ensure the well-being of residents who no longer can live alone.  These facilities ensure care from outside providers and are a growing alternative to Nursing Homes.  With over 31,000 Assisted Living Facilities throughout the United States it is important to research your options.

Do you need Assisted Living?

There are many factors to consider when looking at Assisted Living. Before beginning your search you want to make sure and ask yourself a few key questions to ensure Assisted Living is the best option:
• Does your loved one need assistance with meals?
• Does your loved one need assistance going to the bathroom?
• Does your loved one need help bathing?
• Does your loved one need assistance getting around the house?
• Are you concerned your loved one can not manage/take their own medications properly?

Answering “Yes” to any of the above may mean Assisted Living is a good fit. Assisted Living locations provide a multitude of services and will vary by location. Assisted Living provides a greater amount of care then an Independent Living Community, but less than a person would receive in a Nursing Home.

Assisted Living Facilities generally run at a higher rate than Independent Living Communities but will be considerably less than a Nursing Home or Skilled Facility. Medicare does not cover a person’s monthly cost in an Assisted Living Facility. A person can expect to pay anywhere between $2,000 and $5,000 per month pending on the location, size of the apartment and the services included.
